MUSIC - Vocalist Liz Briones
Liz
is a native of Ecuador who grew up in Washington DC. With her
own Latin blend of blues, jazz and R&B, Liz captivates her audiences with her talent for making you feel her music. In
2002 Liz's talents won her the Baltimore Blues Society's "Blues Competition". In 2004 she released her first CD, which
was produced by her own Kiss My Jazz Entertainment LLC titled "Liz Briones". In 2006 Liz released a two track CD titled
"El Amor de Madre", which was a tribute to Mothers. She has performed from South America to Southeast Asia. She can
be heard at venues in and outside DC.
Was curious about a few things Liz...
DCB: When did you start singing? What age? Clearly, you can sing many types of music, but what is your
favorite and why?
LB: My household has always had plenty of music around...the radio and stereo were CONSTANTLY on and I knew every song....I grew up listening to mostly R&B and latin music....my mother was a singer in her younger days and she sang around the house. To this day she still has a strong clear voice. So I've always "sang" but I guess it wasn't till I went away to college that I got exposed to even more diverse music. I went through a rock phase as well as a electronica/lounge phase....but it was in college I discovered JAZZ!!! and fell in love with it. the complexity and the simpleness
of it....Jazz can be anything you want it to be, you need it to be. It takes you
through every emotion in my opinion and every vocal scale :-)
DCB: In several of the reviews about you, the bands you
perform with are noted for the high caliber of music they perform? Who did
you perform with when you won the 2002 Baltimore Blues Society's "Blues
Competition"?
LB: as for the blues guys.....it was choo choo charlie (he is a baltimore
based harmonica player) and the sweetest man on this earth!! I love him to
death! we got together and won the baltimore blues competition! it was an
experience I will never forget! I learned a lot from him. its kinda hard to get
a lot of engagements together because of the size of the band/ budget,
etc....but to this day if he were to call me - I always jump at the chance to
work with him :-)

nadine rae...she is a sweetheart
with loads of SOUL and experience!
DCB: What bands are you playing with these days?
LB: at the present time I'm doing a lot of private/corporate work, but
am gearing up to do a lot of summer festivals this year as well as a few more
public gigs where all my buds can come check me out :-) you never know where
your next gig will come from. You can always check my myspace page for up the

DCB: When did you begin to sing professionally?
LB: I've been singing professionally now for about 15 years+ or so and
the learning continues....:-) Most recently I've been falling in love with
different world rhythms and brazilian music.....so beautiful, so sensual. and so intricate. what sounds so simple really isn't.
So today, I find myself performing and thinking of ways to progress vocally and in the music business as it fits into my life somehow. My focus is set to do another project....so I'm thinking about what and where my voice lies and what to say or do. It's all a process, but all I say is ..... Let the journey begin ! :-)
